In the television mini-series "Lonesome Dove" the two lead characters elderly former Texas rangers often encounter bad people who display bad behavior.
 
In one particularly violent scene, character of Captain Woodrow F. Coll, explained by actor Tommy Lee Jones, confronts such a man and afterword fairly says, "I hate bad behavior in a man. I won’t tolerate it."
 
Of course, no one can condone violence, but today does it seem as if bad manners have become the norm. while rational discussion, the give and take of ideas, and conclusions are a thing of the past.
 
Behavior psychologists study behavior and point to a trend of rudeness that has been increasing for many years starting with the telephone that allowed people to assail others remotely. Email accelerated the trend because anyone can write a scathing message at anyone in the world with no immediate feedback. (let call the argument, even of the polite kind)
 
Next the trend increased with online reviews. At one time businesses espoused the philosophy of:
"If you like our products tell your friends. If you don’t like our products tell us."
Now anyone in the world can besmirch anyone else from far and anonymously.  Its like road rage without the car. And truth be damned if you can’t control your thoughts, your behavior and your temper, you can attack without repercussions.
 
 In particular, those psychologists point out how so-called "Social Media" is nothing of the kind. While in person meetings produce ____ In a person’s blood stream, online meetings (think zoom) produce none of the same chemicals that induce reasonableness. The lack of in-person feedback is simply not enjoyable.
